I snapped at a poor guy

I snapped at a poor guy

I lost my cool yesterday on the MRT to a perfect stranger. Hm.. I'm either losing it or I'm probably pms-ing.

This big sized guy came aboard and slumped himself to the seat next to me. Not that I mind his smell or his size intruding my circumference of physical space I always protect fiercely.
The moment he opened his mouth to ask me if I was reading TODAY, I knew I was in for some stranger chatting me up kinda situation again. Pissed I got cos I really wanted to concentrate on the paper.

Stranger: You reading today ah?

Me ignoring cos didnt know he was talking to me.

Stranger: You reading today ah?

Me looking up: Ah yah

Stranger: Finished already ah?

Me: Erm no. (I'm at the front page leh)

Stranger: After you finished you give me k. (He was smilin wisply)

Me: K

Stranger: What time is it?

Me: Sorry I dun have a watch (Actually I could have checked my handphone but I really wanted to flare at him: "Eh.. can you please let me read in peace so that I can give you the papers soon?")

The guy continued to try talking but I ignored him totally. So he started to chat with this other guy beside him. Dunno what they talked and I kinda gather that other guy was pissed too. Got off very fast at the next stop.

Seeing no one wanting to sit beside him, he resorted to speak to this lady standing infront of him.
Yeah I was eavedropping can.

Stranger: Eh. Wat time is it?

Lady: 6.05

Stranger: oh.. 6.05.

Stranger (after a few seconds lapse): You say 6.20?

Lady still as poilitely: No. Its 6.05

Stranger: 6, 2, 0 ah.

Lady as nice: No, its 6, 0, 5

Stranger: What stop issit?

Lady: Somerset.

Stranger after some time: What stop? Somerset ah

Lady: Erm.. no.. next stop Orchard already.

At this point, I got pretty irritated. This guy is asking for the sake of asking. The poor lady was simply nice all the way. K I was mean yesterday so forgive me cos I shot him an irritated look.

Then I picked up my handphone to make a phone call, so at that point, my papers were folded and held in one hand. And how dare that stranger reach out to try grab it.

Me: Sorry, I haven't finished (Hey its so rude of you to just take it you know.)

Stranger: Oh you haven't finished ah. Nevermind, read first then give me.
In a mumbling tone: Hurry finish I stopping liao.

He saw another man holding a paper and signalled to him to give them to him. The man simply ignored him the first time but later forced a smile to decline when that stranger persisted.

Before his stop, he suddenly made a final attempt to grab my papers from me. I no longer want to tolerate that kinda nonsense.

Me shooting him a icy glare: I told you I haven't finished! (I was saying in a very loud and chiding tone)

Everyone in the train froze and turned to look our way, like I care they did anyway. The stranger did not seem to notice that and in fact cast me a smirky look before he hopped off the train, not forgetting attempts to wave goodbye.

Aiyo, thinking back, I think I was a little petty neh. I wouldn't have snapped in the past but nicely gave up my paper. Furthermore, I contemplate if that guy was abit low in IQ. The way I treated him was not very nice if it was so. Aiyo.. Shame on me.

Raindrops on roses and whiskers on kittens,
Bright copper kettles and warm woollen mittens.
Brown paper packages tied up with strings,
These are a few of my favourite things.

Cream coloured ponies and crisp apple strudels,
Doorbells and sleighbells and switzel with noodle.
Wild geeze that fly with the moon on their wings,
These are a few of my favourite things.

Girls in white dresses with blue satin sashes,
Snowflakes that stay on my nose and eyelashes.
Silver white winters that melt into springs,
These are a few of my favourite things.

When the dog bites, when the bee stings,
When I'm feeling sad,
I simply remember my favourite things,
And then I don't feel, so Bad..

Blood type matters in dieting?

Blood type matters in dieting?

Click on here and you'll be transported to the website where I found some materials on the topic.

That day over lunch, Adrian was mentioning to us about our blood type and what category of food are seemingly more suitable for each group. Interestingly, he mentioned that blood group O is the oldest blood type. Over thousands of years, human evolved and other blood group started to appear. Ideally, the O people should be able to digest meat better than the rest of the blood group. The A type people should go for more vegetarian while the B people are pretty much balanced in both vege and meat.

Hm.. does that mean that the O people should eat less vege if they wanna lose weight?? Perhaps so huh. Anyway, went to dig up a bit of info here and there, the link to the website is pretty interesting. So do check out k.

Quotations from the site:

"Dr. D’Adamo’s ideas are rooted in evolutionary history, and, specifically, the observation that different blood types (Type O, Type A, Type B, and Type AB) emerged as the environmental conditions and eating styles of our ancestors changed. Between 50,000 BC and 25,000 BC, all humans shared the same blood type—Type O. These early humans were skilled hunters, and thrived on a meat-based diet."

"The Type A blood type emerged between 25,000 BC and 15,000 BC, a necessary adaptation to a more agrarian lifestyle. Climatic changes in the western Himalayan mountains led to the appearance of Type B, and the blending of Type A and Type B blood types in modern civilization resulted in the appearance of the Type AB blood type."

Before I end, I hope Kelly will survive the revival round for Project Superstar tonight. Great voice and personality. I wonder what competition would it be if she is unable to contest in it.

See I was waiting to enroll in Howarts

See I was waiting to enroll in Howarts

As mentioned early in my post, I have already gotten ready and all prepared to enroll into Howarts.

And the news of Dumbledore's death had to come. So sad.......
Luckily havent bought my wand and hat...
Still... I hope Dumbledore will be revived miraculously..

No wonder terrorism is operating so easily these days. Not only did internet make it more convenient, there are even free tools for people to track geographical positionings around the world.

Look at GoogleEarth

We browsed at the application and found that we can easily locate our neighbourhood and even our block itself!!!!

The US state even allows you to see buildings in 3D, allows you to navigate and check co-ordinates (longitude and latitude).

This is the free version.... Can you imagine if one pays for greater details and information???
I'm shuddering at that thot.

More to be updated when we find out more.

Why does it have to be Dumbledore??

Why does it have to be Dumbledore??

Why must Dumbledore die??? I know someone is to die in Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince. But why Dumbledore?? Why why why....
I'm so sad... He is such a great wizard! This is totally UNFAIR!!!
Cant they used that time turner thingy that Hermonie used the other time to save Sirius and BuckBeak??? I want him rise from the dead~~!

JK Rowling... Please let him come back in your last book can??? You have already taken Sirius away. I still have yet to enroll myself at Howarts leh...

What is Howarts without Dumbledore??? Damn you Snape. I resolved to trust Dumbledore's judgement of you that I gave you the benefit of the doubt. I hate you!!! Till the end, I was still hoping that the Avada Kerdavra (Cannot remember the name properly) curse you put on Dumbledore is a promised to him as a last resort to release him from suffering.

*Xiao.. Cannot write liao... *

I'm in mourning mood again.

I'm a sad songs lover.. Especially when the lyrics contain the words
落叶. Dunno why but somehow lyrics of a song is very very impt for me even if the tune may be boring. This song is really nice. Erm am listening to it like >20 times now. Can tear when listening to it. blah =P

Come lets compare these foundations

Come lets compare these foundations

Hm.. amidst the recent highly publicised NKF - Kidney Dialysis Foundation (Singapore) bad press. Let's take a look at some facts and figures. =)

Look at American Kidney Fund. Stunningly, only 1% goes out to operating expenses. Posted by Picasa

Here's KDF (Our other kidney foundation) with what I personally think is an okay ratio. At least it seems decent to me yeah. Posted by Picasa

Tada...! Our star of the day. Posted by Picasa

Program Expenses 95% 55% 83%
Operating Expenses 1% 19% 9%
Fund raising 4% 26% 8%

100% 100% 100%

AKF - American Kidney Foundation (America)
NKF - National Kidney Foundation (Singapore)
KDF - Kidney Dialysis Foundation (Singapore)

What's your conclusion??

This is a total Disgrace~~!

This is a total Disgrace~~!

Thinking back of the countless donations I had made to NKF (Just donated >$50 for a recent charity show) and the monthly contribution made me feel totally disgusted. Blah!
Read the article copied below.

NKF CEO's $600,000 pay revealed in court

By Bertha Henson
July 12, 2005
The Straits Times

A CLOSELY guarded secret of the National Kidney Foundation (NKF) was finally made public yesterday: the salary of its chief executive T.T. Durai.

Gasps could be heard in the courtroom when it was revealed that on top of his $25,000 a month salary, he also received 10 to 12 months in yearly bonuses. That makes his annual salary between $550,000 and $600,000, or $1.8 million in total over the past three years.

This fact, and the disclosure that he had flown first class on NKF's funds, emerged on Day 1 of NKF's defamation suit against Singapore Press Holdings (SPH).

The NKF, which is entirely dependent on public funds, offers dialysis treatment to kidney patients. Two out of every three Singaporeans contribute to it.

It is taking issue with a Straits Times article by senior correspondent Susan Long published on April 19 last year, which stated that a gold-plated tap had been installed and later replaced in the private bathroom in Mr Durai's office suite.

The NKF and Mr Durai contend that this was not the case and that the words in the article, 'The NKF: Controversially ahead of its time?', had damaged their reputation by implying that donors' funds were being misused. The hearing yesterday was delayed by the NKF's application for special damages of $3.24 million, which it claimed was what it lost in donations following the publication of the article. Justice Tan Lee Meng threw out the application and ordered the NKF to pay SPH's legal cost for its last-minute move.

At the hearing, Senior Counsel Davinder Singh, acting for SPH, noted that the tap in question cost $990, expensive by his standards although Mr Durai did not agree. The lawyer sought to show that the NKF was neither honest nor transparent about the way it uses donors' funds.

He told the court he had to ask the NKF three times, twice through the courts, to have the salary of its CEO made public.

Mr Durai, represented by Senior Counsel Michael Khoo, was the only witness who took the stand yesterday. Among those in the gallery was NKF patron, Mrs Goh Chok Tong, wife of the Senior Minister, who left midway through the hearing.

Mr Durai argued that he was not required by law to tell the public what he earned, even though he conceded that they paid his salary. Also, he wanted to protect his personal privacy.

Mr Singh asked: 'The man who earns $1,000 a month who donates $50... every month thinking that it is going to save lives, should they not know that that is the kind of money you earn?' Replied Mr Durai: 'I don't see the need for him to know.' He denied Mr Singh's charge that he refused to disclose his salary as he knew he would lose moral authority with donors.

Mr Durai's travel perks also came under scrutiny.

Not only had the NKF maintained consistently - as recently as in the April 19 article - that none of its executives flew first class, it had threatened to sue people who said Mr Durai did so.

At least two people have had to apologise publicly and pay damages and costs for saying they had seen Mr Durai travel first class, as the NKF said this implied he was wasting donors' funds.

Under questioning, he admitted he had flown first class on some airlines. His explanation: The NKF board allowed this as long as he did not bust the Singapore Airlines business-class rate.

Mr Singh countered: 'Isn't it your duty as a trustee of people's monies to make sure that you get best value on a business-class seat instead of deploying this clever tactic... using it for first class on another plane?'

Mr Durai replied: 'This is a decision made by the board. I used the entitlement.' The entitlement, he added, kicked in only in the past two years. Previously, when he flew first class, he had paid the difference out of his own pocket, he maintained.

Mr Singh noted that although he now flew first class, Mr Durai did not correct his chairman Richard Yong's assertion in the April 19 article that 'there is no such thing as first-class travel'.

'The reason you hide the truth is because you know that that is the wrong thing to do, using people's money, and you know that is mismanagement of donations.'

Mr Durai was asked if he should now 'do the right thing' by the two individuals who had paid him damages and costs for saying what he had now admitted in court. He said no, sticking to his claim that at that time, he did not travel first class using NKF funds and when he did so, he paid the difference himself.

Apart from this article, I personally know that NKF do not fully subsidise its patients. They had claimed that funds from the public can only last them 3-4 years. In actual fact, the total funds in holding could last at least 30 years!!!! What the @#@$$^%^*!!! This is totally despicable.

Can someone please strip this fellow of his position. I think its time that its management reflect upon their actions and usage of the public donations.

To the NKF management: I'm just a small fry. But this small fry looks down on you! Get that! Shame on you!!!!

Grandpa visited me yesterday

Grandpa visited me yesterday

Or so I choose to believe so... Was grooming baby cai on the table in my room when he suddenly growled abnormally and started to barked at something near my book shelves.

I turned to look and see that there wasn't anything physically there that cud have possibly frightened him. He normally exhibits such behaviour when he is afraid. Initially, I wondered if he saw "something", so I muttered "Please go away" (Hope I sounded polite).

Call me superstitious but I start to wonder if it cud be my grandpa who just passed away. That night, I couldn't sleep. Not that I'm very afraid, just that if it was him, its so rude of me to ask him to go away.

Felt pretty bad cos afterall, I wasn't a very good grand-daughter. So I prayed and asked grand papa for forgiveness should I had offended him.

Then I wonder how his Blangadeshi friend is coping. This cleaner friend of his has know him for 4 years. Hailing from a foreign land and a stranger to our environment, grandpa was his only friend here. That day at grand papa's wake, that Blangadeshi cleaner was a picture of shocked. He asked "Old pa mati?" (Old pa dead?). Cud tell very clearly that he was very upset.

According to him, he and grand papa met downstairs at the block. After a few encounters, grandpapa invited him for coffee. From then on, grandpa will often treat him coffee while the cleaner will always direct grandpa home (Cos he always forget his way home). That was how their friendship was forged.

I silently teared after hearing that. I feel quite ashamed that the relationship that grandpa shared with this man is in fact stronger than us grandchildren. At the same time, I was also touched by how 2 strangers so far apart can become friends. Amazing fate....

Currently listening to "Duan(4) Dian(3)" Made me reminise back. Thank you MP for sharing this song. =)

Disablity is not an avenue for taking advantages

Disablity is not an avenue for taking advantages

Geez... We thought that guy deserve our sympathy. What's more, he's a blind.
Naturally, we did not guard against him.

Location: Yishun Northpoint

Blind man (Waving his stick around): Hello! Anyone???

Me: Hi, you need help?

Blind man: Yah I need to go to bus interchange.

Me: Okay, we take you there.

Blind man (walking real slow): Hey, buy a packet of keropok from me?

Me: Erm... I dun take keropoks.

Blind (starting to be persistent): Ask your friend to buy one from me.

Me: She also dun eat keropoks.

Blind (start to walk real real slow on purpose): Want to buy one from me?
Pengz... trying to feign ignorance of the fact that he had already asked. Not that I dun wanna buy, but his attitude seemingly changed from innocent and nice to endless sale's talk.

Me: What bus do you need to take?

Blind: Dunno 800 or 804. Which one better??
How would I know!!?? Its you going leh!!!

Me(Sounding a bit more deliberate): Which one do you wanna take?

Blind: 804 better ba. Btw, buy me water? I got throat problem. Cannot talk properly.
Excuse me.. You are sounding like I owe you something and commanding me around. My sister gave me a disgusted look.

Blind (slowing down even more deliberately): Throat got problem leh. Really cannot talk properly. Not comfortable.
Ah der... You are talking perfectly fine leh.

Me: Okay okay, I get for you.
Didnt give him a chance to tell me what "water" he wants. Simply went to get a bottle of mineral water. Already feeling "bu shuang" (not very happy)

Me: Here's the water, and I'll show you to the bus queue.

Blind (commanding again): Maybe I stand outside the queue, you tell someone to inform me when the bus comes.

Me: I think its better you get into queue (so tat pple behind can aid him)

The conversation above may not sound terrible, but should you stand in my shoes that day, you will agree that they man was just out to get pple to buy keropok from him instead of needing real help. The fact that he knew his way and yet pretended to need assistance got me pretty disgusted.

My message: Never take advantage of sympathy from others.

Passing on

Passing on

Granddad passed on on 1st July.
Even though I saw it coming, I did not know how to react when I first received news that day.
Only when my colleagues asked what had happened after that phone call did my voice break.

I wasn't very close to granddad. In fact, I seldom see him alot these years except for the occasional visits. Will not try to give excuses here for the reason why, but I regretted not knowing him better.
The last I saw him was in the hospital's ICU. He was unconscious...

It was a regret that we ain't by his deathbed. I couldn't even send him one last time. That brought tears into my eyes. I think dad must be feeling very very sad. I didn't know what to say to him.

Come tomorrow, we will send him off his last journey.

Zombie Dogs.. What's next? Zombie Humans??

Zombie Dogs.. What's next? Zombie Humans??

Take a look at these sites,10117,15739502-13762,00.html

For those who are lazy to click on those links, here is the story:

SCIENTISTS have created eerie zombie dogs, reanimating the canines after several hours of clinical death in attempts to develop suspended animation for humans.

US scientists have succeeded in reviving the dogs after three hours of clinical death, paving the way for trials on humans within years.

Pittsburgh's Safar Centre for Resuscitation Research has developed a technique in which subject's veins are drained of blood and filled with an ice-cold salt solution.

The animals are considered scientifically dead, as they stop breathing and have no heartbeat or brain activity.

But three hours later, their blood is replaced and the zombie dogs are brought back to life with an electric shock.

Plans to test the technique on humans should be realised within a year, according to the Safar Centre.

However rather than sending people to sleep for years, then bringing them back to life to benefit from medical advances, the boffins would be happy to keep people in this state for just a few hours,

But even this should be enough to save lives such as battlefield casualties and victims of stabbings or gunshot wounds, who have suffered huge blood loss.

During the procedure blood is replaced with saline solution at a few degrees above zero. The dogs' body temperature drops to only 7C, compared with the usual 37C, inducing a state of hypothermia before death.

Although the animals are clinically dead, their tissues and organs are perfectly preserved.

Damaged blood vessels and tissues can then be repaired via surgery. The dogs are brought back to life by returning the blood to their bodies, giving them 100 per cent oxygen and applying electric shocks to restart their hearts.

Tests show they are perfectly normal, with no brain damage.

"The results are stunning. I think in 10 years we will be able to prevent death in a certain segment of those using this technology," said one US battlefield doctor.

Sounds Scary.... Wonder if it actually happened?
